Minutes from 08-14-07

         I.            Called to Order:          President Steve LaFata called to order at 6:35pm.

II.            Attending:                   Steve LaFata, Craig Van Deen, Michael Gaffney, Mark Bohnenkamp

Don Hilton and Joe Kunkel.  Court members present – Jeff Muir and Justice.  Board members absent – Cris Cringle.

      III.            Special Business:

a)     Equality Arizona – Radio airtime:  Most of the board met with Meta on Saturday down at Friends talking about a joint fundraising between the court and Equality Arizona.  The Fundraiser would raise money to buy airtime for the radio broadcast and the court would in turn get advertising.  The court would also get more airtime for our 5 state functions.  The Board voted in favor of doing the joint fundraising.  There are a couple of questions that Meta will need to clarify for the Board before the fundraiser is put on the schedule.

b)     Questions Surrounding the Dues:   Suggestion to reduce the members’ dues each month.  The $100 is keeping many people from joining.  The issue was not explaining clear enough the monthly dues and that the $100 is just a savings.  We will also make sure people know that there are two levels of membership.  We will do a better job of communicating both membership levels along with the monthly dues vs. paying all at once to get a savings. Resident Membership and Associate Membership.  Motion made by Joe Kunkel, 2nd by Don Hilton.  The Board voted to leave the dues at their current levels and do a better job of explaining and making sure everyone understands the different levels and the difference between paying monthly or all at one time.

c)      Shop for the Cause:  Joe Kunkel made the motion to do this fundraiser, 2nd by Michael Gaffney.  The Board approved doing the Shop for the Cause with Macy’s.  Joe Kunkel will get all of the information and submit the application to the Macy’s Biltmore requesting 500 tickets.  The tickets will be sold for $5 each which comes to the court.  The person takes their ticket to Macy’s on the set date, they will receive a discount on their purchase along with being entered into a drawing for a $500 Macy’s gift card.

d)     Yard Sale:  Joe Kunkel made the motion to set the date for the court’s yard sale, 2nd by Craig Van Deen.  September 22, 2007 set as the tentative date.

IV.            Adjourn:  Motion made by Mark Bohnenkamp, 2nd by Don Hilton.  All were in favor and the meeting adjourned.
